The Weekly Digest (February 11, 2024)
Happy Super Bowl Sunday, Brionies!
Here’s what you need to know about San Francisco politics this week and beyond:
City Hall
Monday, February 12 at 10am: Regular meeting of the Rules Committee (agenda and call-in instructions here)
Item 2 – Hearing to consider appointing new members to the Housing Stability Fund Oversight Commission, which advises how to spend revenue from Proposition I, a real estate transfer tax that passed in 2020. Let this serve as a reminder that San Francisco is partly governed by over 130 separate oversight bodies, comprised of unelected volunteers. The required qualifications to serve on this particular commission include living in social housing or being an investor in it, and those people surely have relevant expertise. But we wish there was a designated position for a “neighbor with no skin in the game who would like to see tax dollars spent responsibly.” That guy wasn’t invited.
Item 4 – Ordinance allowing the Department of Public Health to procure behavioral health and public health services without adhering to competitive solicitation rules.
Monday, February 12 at 1:30pm: Regular meeting of the Land Use and Transportation Committee (agenda and call-in instructions here)
Item 6 – Ordinance sponsored by Supervisor Peskin to modify density limits in districts east of Columbus Avenue and north of Washington Street. We note that Supervisor Peskin’s wife leads one of the neighborhood groups advocating for this plan. Background here.
Tuesday, February 13 at 2pm: Regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors (agenda and call-in instructions here)
Mayor Breed will make her monthly appearance before the Board.
Item 7 – Resolution authorizing $67,680,000 in financing by the city for the construction of a 151-unit multifamily rental housing project known as “Transbay Block 2 West,” at 200 Folsom Street.
Thursday, February 15 at 10am: Regular meeting of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee (agenda and call-in instructions here)
Item 3 – Hearing on the Controller’s report on invoices submitted by San Francisco SAFE. Background here.
Item 4 – Resolution apologizing on behalf of the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco to African Americans and their descendants for systemic and structural discrimination.
