Happy Sunday, Brionies!

Here’s what you need to know about local politics this week and beyond:

San Francisco City Hall

  • Tuesday, November 19 at 2pm: Regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors (agenda here):

    • Outgoing Mayor London Breed will make her monthly appearance, engaging in formal policy discussions with the Board.

    • Item 6 – Resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $225,000,000 in  bonds to fund earthquake safety and emergency response. In the March 2020 election, two-thirds of San Francisco voters approved Proposition B, which authorizes the sale of up to $628,500,000 of general obligation bonds to fund capital projects including upgrades to the emergency firefighting water system; improvement and rehabilitation of fire and police stations; upgrading or replacement of disaster response facilities; and expansion of the 911 call center. From this authorization, $167,805,000 of bonds have been issued to date, and $460,695,000 remains unissued.

    • Item 22 – Ordinance to repeal regulations of public bath houses

    • Item 30 – Resolution commending Supervisor Catherine Stefani for her service as Supervisor of District 2. Stefani won a California Assembly seat in the recent election, and the Supes are bidding her farewell.

  • Wednesday, November 20 at 10am: Regular meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee (agenda here):

    • Item 1 – Resolution to establish a Worker Justice Fund to address the challenge of collecting wages owed to workers by employers who have violated their rights. Sponsored by progressive Supervisors Ronen, Walton, Peskin, and Melgar, and modeled on a similar program in San Diego, monies for this fund will come from taxpayers as well as from the labor violation penalties paid by employers.

    • Item 3 – Fee Elimination for Businesses. As approved by voters through Prop M, this ordinance eliminates certain fees for businesses.

Happenings around town

What we’re reading

  • Assemblymember Matt Haney is livin’ like a king, 👑 using donor funds, of course! He spent $3,191 in campaign money for two nights in Ireland at five-star hotel, Adare Manor, a 19th century castle that offers “a lavish experience beyond anything.” 🏰 Haney previously came under scrutiny for spending $75,000 in campaign cash on 49ers, Giants and Warriors tickets. At the Briones Society, we can’t help but admire Matt’s corny attempts to live rich, and hope his donors continue to support his lifestyle. He still needs an iced-out timepiece, designer clothes with oversized logos, and bottle service at the club. 🍾

  • The autopsy on Mayor Breed's failed campaign for re-election has begun. One former supporter said that Breed “failed to nurture the relationships necessary to keep the moderate coalition stitched together.” 😔
